What to check before you choose an online course

Before you pay for any online ISO or GRC course, it is worth asking these questions. Here is how Sterling Academy answers each one.

  1. Who built the course?

Our courses are built from the classroom training Sterling's consultants deliver to client teams, with the same structure, terms and examples. They are written by people who implement these standards, not by generic content writers.

  2. Is it the current edition?

Each course is built on the edition of the standard it names, and the certificate shows that edition, for example ISO 37301:2021 or ISO/IEC 17025:2017. When a standard is revised, we update the course.

  3. Is the content checked against the standard?

Before release, every module is checked against its source documents, and every narration line is checked against the script.

  4. Does the exam test real understanding?

Each course ends with a final exam and a pass mark. Every question is checked against what the course teaches, so learners are tested on what they were taught.

  5. Will the certificate stand up in an audit?

The Certificate of Completion names the course, the standard and its edition, and the date. Your training records are kept, so you can show auditors who completed which course and when. Anyone can check a certificate on this site.

  6. Does it work for a team, not just one person?

You can buy places for a team at a lower price per learner, assign courses and follow progress. Larger organisations can have a dedicated learning platform.

  7. Is the price clear?

The price of each course is shown on the course page. You do not need to ask for a quote to enrol yourself.

  8. Are the examples relevant to your work?

The examples come from many kinds of workplaces and countries: a BPO in the Philippines, a fintech in India, a manufacturer, a laboratory, a start-up in the USA. Learners see how the requirement applies to work like theirs.

What a course certificate is, and what it is not

A Sterling Academy Certificate of Completion shows that a person completed the course and reached the pass mark of its final exam. It is a record of training and competence building. It is not certification of your organisation to a standard, and it is not a personnel certification. Certification of an organisation is done by an independent certification body after an audit. We say this plainly because good training providers should.
