About ISO 22301 Awareness, its certificate and enrolment.

Ask Sterling
Who is ISO 22301 Awareness Training for?

It is for top management, the BCMS team and process owners, and all staff, in organisations such as BPOs and contact centres, SaaS and IT services, banks, hospitals, logistics and manufacturing. A staff path of four modules covers disruptions, each person's role in the plan, communication and reporting. No prerequisite knowledge is needed.

What does the ISO 22301 Awareness course cover?

It covers why business continuity matters; disruptions and what a BCMS protects; the structure of ISO 22301; context, scope, policy and objectives; resources, competence and communication; the business impact analysis and recovery terms such as RTO and RPO; risk assessment and strategies; business continuity plans; exercising the plans; and monitoring, audit, management review and improvement.

How long does the ISO 22301 Awareness course take?

The course is planned as 10 video modules and about 78 minutes of video, with three practice questions after each module and a 20-question final exam: about 1 hour 45 minutes of learner time in all. With 12 months of access, learners can complete it in one sitting or over several sessions.

Do learners receive a certificate?

Yes. Learners who reach the 70% pass mark in the final exam receive a Sterling Academy Certificate of Completion for ISO 22301 Awareness Training. Each certificate carries a unique number and a QR code, and anyone can check it online using the certificate number and the holder's surname. It states that the learner has attended and successfully completed Awareness Training on ISO 22301:2019, Business Continuity Management System (BCMS).

Is the course online and self-paced?

Yes. ISO 22301 Awareness Training is a self-paced online course made of short video modules, in English with captions. You study at your own pace during 12 months of access, and practice questions after modules help you check your understanding before the final exam. If a point is unclear, questions are answered by a Sterling consultant.

Can we enrol a team, and how much does it cost?

ISO 22301 Awareness Training is US$19 per learner. Teams save 20% for 11 to 50 learners and 30% for 51 to 200 learners; 201 or more learners are priced on request. Client administrators can track their team's progress. Prices are in US dollars, excluding taxes, and Sterling confirms final pricing and enrolment.

Does this course make our organisation ISO 22301 certified?

No. The Certificate of Completion is a training certificate: it shows that one person completed ISO 22301 Awareness Training and reached the pass mark in its final exam. It is not certification of an organisation to ISO 22301, and Sterling does not certify organisations. An organisation is certified by an independent certification body after that body's own audit.

What is the difference between business continuity and disaster recovery?

Disaster recovery focuses on restoring IT systems. Business continuity is wider: it keeps the organisation's products and services running through any disruption, including a supplier that cannot deliver, loss of premises, loss of key people and natural events, not only IT outages. The course shows why an excellent IT recovery plan alone does not make a business resilient.
